How to read tint percentages
Visible light transmission (VLT) describes how much visible light passes through the combined glass-and-film system. A lower number generally looks darker. The final meter reading can differ from the film label because vehicle glass already blocks some light.
Appearance is only one decision
- Ask about measured VLT after installation, not just the film label.
- Consider night visibility and rainy-weather driving.
- Compare heat rejection data separately from darkness.

Common visual ranges
70%–50%: light appearance, often chosen when visibility and heat control matter more than privacy.
35%–25%: medium appearance with a more noticeable shaded look.
20%–15%: dark appearance with stronger daytime privacy and reduced night visibility.
5%: extremely dark appearance, often called “limo tint.” It may be unsuitable or unlawful on many windows.
